Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service
The Harbour2Vine Cycle Classic proudly supports Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service a worthwhile charity helping the local community.
WHAT WE DO
The Rescue Helicopters are ready to respond 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. On board every mission is a Pilot, Aircrew Officer, Critical Care NSW Ambulance Paramedic and NSW Health Doctor. Some missions may also include a specialist nursing professional.
MISSIONS
• Pre-Hospital Emergencies– Missions where patients are hard to access, their condition is time critical or if they cannot be accessed by ground based emergency services. These types of missions can include motor vehicle, industrial, farming, aviation, boating and misadventure accidents, as well as injuries sustained at home. •Inter-Hospital Transfers – Missions conducted for critically ill or injured patients that require specialist care and timely transfer from a regional hospital to a specialist tertiary facility. • Search and rescue – Conduct and assist with land and marine based search and rescue operations in all types of conditions. Examples of this may include searches for: distress beacons, missing vessels, persons and aircraft. Often these types of mission require the extraction of people from remote and hard to access locations.
FUNDING
It costs approximately $40 million a year to keep the helicopters and crews ready to respond when needed. Of this $12 million is raised through sponsorships, Volunteer, events and partnerships with our community. The remainder is funded through contracts with NSW Health and NSW Ambulance.
