What a fantastic day for the 2016 Crowne2Crowne Cycle Classic with record registrations of 211
(197 registering prior to the day & 14 registrations on the day)
It was a warm sunny day (mid 20’s) with strong winds. The feedback on the day from riders saying it was the best C2C so far. A large fake cheque was handed to Westpac Rescue Helicopter on the day. At the finish line we had Newcastle Cycleways promoting their latest 2 campaigns & Hunter Water providing free water bottles. Food & service by both hotels were exceptional.
“Great day had by all – 163 riders and over $3k fundraising by riders!
Once again the day worked to our advanatge – beautiful blue skies, although by the end of the ride it was around 38degress in the Hunter so the last leg was very difficult.
Cessnock council asked us to change the route at the last minute, so the ride ended up missing Cessnock alltogether and coming into the hotel from Lovedale road.
The catering was once again a huge hit and we got a lot of very positive comment about the organisation etc. Everyone I spoke to said they’d certainly be back next year.”

This year, we reversed the direction of the Crowne to Crowne was very successful, riders were very happy and commented on how well it was organised. The BBQ at Hunter Valley was great, excellent spot and definitely the way to go for next year. Unfortunately on the same morning was another local bicycle ride with 250 riders participating for Rotary
On another beautiful day this ride ran from hunter Valley to Newcastle. It was run again in three sections, and we noted less crosswind than in previous years. Once we arrived at the Crowne Plaza in Newcastle, a beer refreshment marquee was set up to compliment the buffet meal.
In 2010 a larger collection of riders were involved. Morre than a dozen, sponsored by 23hundred cafe at nobby Point actually rode by bicycle from Newcastle to hunter valley, consumed breakfast, and then returned to Newcastle. The day again was beautiful, however the stronger headwind was particularly noted after our second breakstop. However the additional difficulty was forgotten by the time we were into our second drink at the finish.
The very first ever Crowne2Crowne ride was held on Sunday 18th October 2009, under ideal conditions.
